The Top 10 South Florida aquatics providers for the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim program were recognized at a special ceremony this week at the American Red Cross Broward County Chapter in Plantation.

“There are too many young children who drown in South Florida, but thanks to the aquatics facilities offering American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim programs, we hope to prevent accidents in the water,” said Patrick Beason, Aquatics Programs Coordinator at the American Red Cross South Florida Region.

“And because Red Cross programs are designed for children as young as 6 months old and for adults, there’s no reason anyone in South Florida should miss out on this learning this crucial skill.”

It’s especially important for parents to learn how to swim and how to perform CPR because often times they will give paramedics a hood head start in an emergency.

Each provider, ranked based on the number of enrollees reported for the 2009-2010 season, was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation on Tuesday, Oct. 26. Between the twenty of them, these providers reached 254,092 students offering swimming lessons and water safety education in Broward and Miami-Dade counties.
